The Quantitative Genetic Architecture of Sex Differences in Longevity
CHP/PCOR Project2009-Present
Researchers
Jamie Jones, PhD
The aim of this project is to investigate the heritability of longevity and the relative contributions of selection on mean lifespan and sex-specific lifespan to human longevity. There is a long history of interest in sex-specific selective effects on human lifespan arising form the existence of menopause, a feature of human life cycle that is found in other species. The researcher aims to capitalize on the existence of a unique historical demographic database and the recent development of advanced statistical and computational methods for the estimation of detailed quantitative genetic models from genealogically linked databases.
