USA Today cites Michael McFaul on recent case of the poisoned Russian spy

Russian political specialists, such as Stanford University's Michael McFaul, say the common thread among Russia watchers is concern about the erosion of human rights in Russia and attacks on Putin's critics since he took office in 2000. "Among the people I talk to in Russia, [the recent murders] had a very sobering effect," he says of Litvinenko's murder. "I think it makes everybody think, 'What in God's name is going on in Russia?'
