Terry Karl Comments on Ecuador's Plan to Seek International Funding to Prevent Oil Drilling

Terry Karl, CDDRL faculty affiliate, is quoted in "Ecuador Seeks Cash to Keep Oil in Jungle," by Forbes. Karl says that Ecuador, which is seeking money from the international community to not drill for oil in Ishpingo-Tiputini-Tambococha fields, "could really be coming up with a very interesting formula" if it uses the money to fund education, health, and environmental programs. "It's not enough to say, 'We are the government of the poor,'" she adds. "You have to have very well directed, well thought-out, long-term investments that produce teachers and clinics." Read more »
