Michael McFaul, Director of CDDRL, comments on current U.S.-Russian relations as Putin heads to G-8 summit

In the News

CDDRL Director Michael McFaul is quoted in "Bush Reaches to Putin as Relations Continue to Slide," by Peter Baker and Peter Finn, in The Washington Post on May 31. McFaul says that relations with Russia have reached a 20-year low, that American administration officials are "apologetic," and that "it feels to them like a crisis." McFaul adds that, although a year ago there was disagreement about how to interpret Russia, today "nobody has a good idea of what is to be done." McFaul is also quoted in "Russia's Putin heads into G-8 summit amid rising tensions with West," in The International Herald Tribune on May 31. McFaul says, " I can't think of a single country that would declare itself the ally of Russia today. From the outside, it seems like they're creating this whole world of a return to the Cold War, and antagonism."
