January too late for surge, Diamond says

In October 2006, President Bush conceded that the efforts in Iraq were not going as well as hoped. In order to deal with the increasingly complicated situation in Iraq, President Bush has been working on a plan that may send a surge of troops into Iraq. Larry Diamond weighs in that if we are indeed going to send troops, sending them sooner is better than later. "I'd send them or at least issue the order to send them before Christmas. I wouldn't wait until the middle of January."
