CDDRL faculty member Larry Diamond provides comment for a May 21 news analysis in the San Francisco Chronicle, discussing how controversial Iraqi politician Ahmed Chalabi will likely continue to control much of Iraq's politics from behind the scenes, despite the recent raid on his home by U.S. troops and the Bush administration's decision to cut off his funding. Diamond, who last month completed a three-month stint as a senior adviser to the Coalition Provisional Authority (the U.S.-run occupation power in Iraq), describes Chalabi as a "shrewd player" with "certain levers of power."
