A May 18 opinion column in the San Jose Mercury News, titled "Why are we in Iraq?" includes comment from CDDRL faculty member Larry Diamond, who says it is still possible that "a near democracy or semi-democracy" -- though perhaps not a full democracy -- could emerge in Iraq.
