CDDRL's Larry Diamond skeptical of Bush's decision to send more troops

The success of President Bush's recent decision to send more troops into Iraq hinges on whether or not Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, can deliver on the new performance benchmarks agreed upon by both sides. However, many outside experts remain skeptical. "If that kind of political settlement is not forthcoming, and pretty soon, I don't think any number of troops that the United States could put in are going to be enough to stabilize Iraq," said Larry Diamond, a former U.S. adviser in Iraq.
