CDDRL Visiting Scholar,Kavita Ramdas is seeking an undergraduate research assistant who will be available to commit 8-10 hours per week. The ideal candidate must have a minimum GPA of 3.3, and have an avid interest in issues pertaining to international development, peace, human rights, and gender justice.
About the Project:
The undergraduate research assistant will support Kavita conduct research on a range of issues related to social justice, civil society, global economic and social development, human rights and gender. Support will be requested in pulling together data to support written articles as well as speeches.
In addition, the Visiting Scholar will need assistance developing a proposal for a longer term project that will highlight the roles of social entrepreneurs and human rights activists working to end gender discrimination in multiple contexts within societies in a globalizing world. The purpose is to explore the development of a program that could bring leading activists and human rights defenders to spend some time in the United States, at a university like Stanford as well as in policy environments to share their knowledge, expertise, analysis and solutions for some of the most challenging problems facing our world.
The ideal candidate will:
have a background and strong interest in issues of gender, human rights, international politics and development.
- have lived or worked in a developing country or other countries outside the United States
- be proficient with data bases and have a strong grasp of technological tools to facilitate research
- be curious and entrepreneurial in spirit
- be highly organized and methodical
- be willing to engage in discussion and debate about ideas
- be a strong writer and communicator
- have an interest in the practical applications of research
Possible Majors: Sociology, Political Science, Law, International Relations, Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities, History, Feminist Studies, Cultural & Social Anthropology
