Corruption, Governance, and the International System
Course number(s): LAW 414Offered Spring quarter in the 2006-2007 academic year
Instructors
Thomas C. Heller - Stanford University
Stephen D. Krasner - Stanford University
Professors Krasner and Heller will collaborate in a research workshop that will concentrate on issues growing out of international efforts to improve the quality of governance, reduce corruption and foster the rule of law. We will examine the successes and failures of programs such as the Millenium Challenge Account, the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, and World Bank Rule of Law Assistance Funding to evaluate the effects and capacities of these efforts on behavior and institutions in domestic systems. Students will be expected to participate in research design and writing associated with analyzing and interpreting the impacts of these and similar programs on incentives for economic growth and more and less democractic forms of national governance.
